The Kurdistan Region’s finance ministry sold off 60 properties belonging to jailed opposition leader Shaswar Abdulwahid, head of the New Generation Movement (NGM), in a public auction to recover nearly 92 billion Iraqi dinars ($70 million), Rudaw reports. “An investor from Sulaimani” purchased Abdulwahid’s assets, which include land, hotels, cafeterias, and tourist cabins, for approximately 90 billion dinars ($68.5 million).

In August 2025, the government shut down Abdulwahid’s Chavi Land amusement park in Sulaimani, citing alleged tax violations.

Abdulwahid has been imprisoned since August 2025, according to Rudaw.
