Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has proposed September 5 2024 as the new date for the Kurdistan Region’s parliamentary elections, after ruling out the previously scheduled date of June 10 2024, Rudaw has reported. IHEC’s decision follows an Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council ruling reducing minority quota seats, which led the ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) to announce it will boycott the election. The Kurdistan Region’s elections were initially scheduled for October 2022 but have been postponed multiple times.
