Delayed payments of public sector salaries and increases in the prices of essential goods have left the Kurdistan Region’s bazaars quiet ahead of the usually busy month of Ramadan, Rudaw has reported. The KRG has long struggled to pay public sector salaries on time and in full, the report added. The ongoing dispute over the Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline, which has seen Turkey suspend exports of Kurdish crude oil, has worsened the government’s inability to meet its payroll.
