KRG President Nechirvan Barzani met with an Iranian delegation led by Reza Rahmani, Governor of Iran’s West Azerbaijan province, to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and cross-border cooperation, Rudaw reports. Rahmani conveyed Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s “special regards” to President Barzani and expressed gratitude to the KRG for “the extensive facilities and services” provided to the Arbaeen pilgrims travelling through Kurdistan to Southern Iraq.

The Iranian delegation also met with KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani to explore strengthening bilateral relations, with a focus on boosting trade and easing cross-border travel, as noted in an official KRG statement.

The meetings come against the backdrop of the KRG’s increasingly contradictory foreign policy stance.
