A “Sustainability 2025” report by Sarhad Khdir and Andrzej Cieślik, titled Regional Concentration of FDI and Sustainable Economic Development, analyzes the spatial distribution of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Kurdistan. According to the study, 93% of total investment is concentrated in the capital, Erbil, while 7% is distributed across the other governorates. To address the spatial inequality, the report calls for a regionally differentiated policy framework that includes targeted investment incentives tailored to local comparative advantages, strategic infrastructure upgrades in underdeveloped areas, strengthened investor protections, streamlined regulatory processes, and the establishment of investment promotion agencies (IPAs) to enhance investor engagement and aftercare.
