Russia values its “longstanding, unique, and friendly historical relations” with Kurdistan, Russia’s Consul General in Erbil Maxim Rubin has told Rudaw in an interview. Mr Rubin added that Russia “remains committed to strengthening these ties despite current challenges.” Safeen Dizayee, Head of the Department of Foreign Relations, congratulated Russia on “Russia day”, expressing his hope for unity and cooperation in a post on X. This comes despite seemingly cordial relations between the U.S. and the KRG, with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken recently praising the US-Kurdistan partnership as being founded on shared values and interests.
