OCCRP – Smoke and Mirrors: How the “Father” of Iraq’s Cigarette Smugglers Built An Empire

The Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) has reported links between Iraqi tycoon Nizar Hanna Nasri, the so-called “father” of Iraq’s cigarette smuggling trade, and the Barzani family.

In a new report, OCCRP described Nasri as a “close ally” of the Barzani family, adding that they have “numerous intertwined financial interests.”
