Security forces have detained at least three teachers who were protesting outside the headquarters of Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) leader Bafel Talabani in Dabashan, according to Rudaw. The striking teachers, along with other civil service employees, have not received their salaries for over 50 days. They also protested the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) ‘My Account’ initiative, which aims to digitize salary payments by depositing them directly into bank accounts instead of handing them out in cash. Since the initiative was launched in October 2023, many civil servants have only been paid for nine months in 2023, and since the start of the new year have only been paid their salaries for January.
